Spotlight on inspirational infrastructure

Now that the dust is finally settling after the whirlwind that was UK Construction Week in Birmingham last week, we’ve had the chance to take stock of some of the fascinating encounters and discussions we experienced at the show. High on the list is a panel discussion hosted by World Architecture News on Tuesday 18th October on the vast topic of ‘Inspirational Infrastructure’.

This stimulating exchange was chaired by WAN’s Editor in Chief, Michael Hammond, and appearing on the distinguished panel of guests were Neill McClements, Partner at Grimshaw; Bridget Rosewell, Commissioner of the National Infrastructure Commission; Huw Thomas, Partner at Foster + Partners, and – on typically outspoken form – Cezary Bednarski, Architect, Studio Bednarski.

The conversation was lively (to put it mildly at times) and very diverse, ranging across the whole spectrum of infrastructure from nuclear power stations and the cyber security of buildings to high speed rail and driverless cars through to harnessing wave power, the latest in bridge design and more.

Anyone involved in infrastructure would have come away with a large helping of food for thought, but if you were not fortunate enough to be with us in Birmingham, fear not… you can listen in to the highlights in our specially recorded podcast here.
